Gavin Oak Mar 31, 2026 Thailand

Virgin Atlantic has announced an exciting new long-haul route connecting London Heathrow (LHR) directly with Phuket International Airport (HKT) — one of Thailand’s most sought-after holiday destinations. For UK travellers dreaming of white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and tropical island adventures, this new service represents a major improvement in convenience and accessibility.

Launching in October 2026, the route will eliminate the need for stopovers in destinations like Bangkok, Doha, or Dubai. Instead, passengers will be able to fly directly from London to Thailand’s largest island in a single journey.

The new route is expected to be particularly popular during the UK winter months, when travellers are eager to escape cold temperatures in search of sunshine. With its stunning coastline, vibrant nightlife, world-class resorts, and access to nearby island paradises, Phuket has long been a favourite destination for British tourists.

Virgin Atlantic’s move to introduce direct flights highlights the growing demand for Southeast Asian travel and strengthens the airline’s long-haul leisure network.

The new London to Phuket flights will begin operating on 18 October 2026 as a seasonal winter service, running three times per week from London Heathrow.
The current planned schedule is as follows:

The current planned schedule includes:

London Heathrow → Phuket: Wednesday, Friday and Sunday
Phuket → London Heathrow: Thursday, Saturday and Monday

Flights will depart London Heathrow at 11.45 hrs, arriving in Phuket at 06.55 hrs the following morning.
The return flight leaves Phuket 09.20 hrs and arrives back in London Heathrow at 16.00 hrs

Virgin Atlantic will operate the Phuket route using its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, a modern long-haul aircraft known for improved passenger comfort and efficiency.
