Continue by rail to Seattle for two nights, giving you time to experience the Emerald City before your cruise. Explore Pike Place Market, the Space Needle and the waterfront, or simply soak up the atmosphere of this vibrant Pacific Northwest city.

Then it's time for the highlight of the journey as you board MSC Poesia for a seven-night Alaska cruise. Day 1 - Fly to San Francisco

Fly direct from London Heathrow to San Francisco and transfer to your centrally located hotel for a two-night stay.

Once settled in, you can begin exploring the city or simply relax after your flight. With your hotel in a central location, many of San Francisco's famous attractions are within easy reach.

Day 2 - San Francisco

Enjoy a full day to discover San Francisco.

See the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, explore Fisherman's Wharf, visit Chinatown or take a ride on one of the city's famous cable cars. There is also the opportunity to add an optional excursion, such as Alcatraz, Napa and Sonoma Wine Country, Muir Woods and Sausalito, or a full-day Yosemite National Park tour.

Day 3 - Coast Starlight Overnight Rail Journey

Today, travel to San Francisco Emeryville Station to board the legendary Amtrak Coast Starlight for your overnight journey to Portland.

Travel in a private First Class Roomette, where comfortable seats convert into upper and lower beds for the night. Enjoy the comfort of upgraded bedding, pillows, towels and linens, along with access to a shared restroom and shower facilities.

The following morning, enjoy breakfast and lunch as part of the traditional dining service before arriving in Portland. As the train heads north, relax and enjoy spectacular scenery including the Pacific coastline, lush forests, fertile valleys and the dramatic Cascade Range.

Day 4 - Arrive in Portland

Arrive in Portland and transfer to your centrally located hotel for a two-night stay.

Spend the rest of the day exploring the city at your own pace. Portland is known for its independent character, excellent food scene, craft breweries, boutiques and lively neighbourhoods.

Day 5 - Portland

Enjoy a full day to explore Portland or venture beyond the city.

You could take an optional tour to the Columbia River Gorge and Multnomah Falls, discover Oregon's famous wine country, take a tour of Portland itself or explore the spectacular Oregon Coast.

Day 6 - Rail Journey to Seattle

Today, board the train from Portland Union Station to Seattle.

On arrival, check in to your centrally located hotel for a two-night stay. The remainder of the day is free to begin exploring Seattle, perhaps with a visit to Pike Place Market, the waterfront or one of the city's many neighbourhoods.

Day 7 - Seattle

Enjoy a full day to explore Seattle before your Alaska cruise.

Discover some of the city's best-known attractions, including the Space Needle, Pike Place Market and the waterfront, or explore the city's diverse neighbourhoods, shops and restaurants.

An optional City Sightseeing Seattle Hop-On Hop-Off Tour is also available.

Day 8 - Board MSC Poesia

Today, make your way to Seattle Cruise Port and board MSC Poesia for your seven-night Alaska cruise.

Settle into your cabin and enjoy your first evening aboard as the ship begins its journey north.

Days 9-14 - Alaska Cruise

Set sail from Seattle aboard MSC Poesia for a spectacular seven-night cruise through Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.

Your journey takes you north towards Ketchikan and Icy Strait Hoonah, where you can experience the rugged beauty and rich culture of Southeast Alaska. Cruise through the breathtaking Tracy Arm, surrounded by towering mountains, dramatic cliffs and spectacular glaciers, before continuing to Victoria, British Columbia, one of Canada's most charming waterfront cities.

Along the way, enjoy relaxing days at sea, giving you time to make the most of MSC Poesia and take in the incredible scenery from the ship. A small number of sailing dates follow a different route, visiting Juneau instead of Ketchikan earlier in the itinerary, before continuing to Icy Strait Hoonah, Tracy Arm and Ketchikan.

Keep watch for Alaska's incredible wildlife, with opportunities to spot whales, eagles, bears and other wildlife against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains, forested islands and glacial landscapes.

After your final stop in Victoria, return to Seattle ready for your onward journey home.

Day 15 - Seattle & Fly Home

Disembark MSC Poesia in Seattle and make your way to the airport for your return direct flight to London Heathrow.
